"Consistency in putting stems from creating consistently good starting positions – I call these constants and they are:
(1) Constant Eye Position,
(2) Constant Hand Position and
(3) Constant Ball Position.
If you start in exactly the same position every time then you will develop a putting stroke that repeats. The Optimizer prism consistently sets you in the correct position for executing the perfect putting stroke, every time.” [Peter Cowen]

Once you have decided how much the ball will break, you would normally set the putter head so that it is perfectly square to the target line. The center line on the Optimizer is a 3-D line and as such it is a true extension of the target line itself and you can see it in front of you at all times. Just take the Optimizer back along the centre line and deliver it through the ball straight down the center line. If you've picked the target line correctly and hit the ball with the requisite amount of weight, the ball should go into the hole. The ideal putting stroke is executed by a movement of the shoulders. The three graphics illustrate what can happen if your starting positions are not constant and the eyes are not directly above the target line.
